Travelling in France
Best time to visit
Summers are warm, especially in the south. Winters are wet and cooler, with snow in the mountains. Pack lightweight clothes in the summer; don't forget your beachwear if you think you might head to the coast. Bring warm clothes for winter, especially in mountainous regions.
Culture and customs

Parisian sidewalks and roads are often on three different levels; watch them when stepping on and off the sidewalk.

Parisian hotels have automatic, centralised air-conditioning systems, and the temperatures may not be quite as cool as you are accustomed to.

Pre-holiday reads for the south of France: Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence or Yvonne Lenard's The Magic of Provence.
